I painted this acrylic canvas this summer under the shade of our deck. I can't remember what urban image I referenced, but I remember seeing the shape of the boy and his friend. Then the umbrella, the chair and the little dog popped out of the painting.
When I started my photography career, I knew I wanted to take my images further than the click of a shutter, so I built a darkroom in my home and explored my creativity under a red light. When digital photography arrived on the scene, I came out of the dark, into the world of pixels and possibilities. Today, I take my images even further with paint and mixed media. I use layers, texture, and contrast to create complex images of everyday things, places, and people. Hints of the past and the present play together to tell my visional stories.
